Packing
Use our packing tips the next time you need to move or need to pack items to be placed in a self storage facility.
These tips have been collected through actual experience.
- Plan ahead. If you can dispose of items before you pack you'll save time and expense. Consider holding a garage sale to dispose of no longer needed items or donate them to charity. If you haven't used an item in several years, chances are you won't use it in your new location either, and there's no point in paying to pack, move or store it.
- Consider packing important documents, like bank statements, medical records, car titles, etc. in one place. Don't put these items in storage and consider moving them with you if it's practical to do so.
- If you need to take something apart in order to pack it or store it, label each piece so you can easily put it back together when it's time to unpack.
- Use blankets, towels, or old linens to protect furniture. Upholstered furniture is best covered with cotton sheets that allow ventilation and prevent mold and mildew.
- Pack items within other items. For example, pack sponges inside pots. This makes unpacking easier too.
- Chairs can be stacked seat-to-seat with paper in between each chair.
